"Here We Go Again!"

Many of us, if not all has heard these old sayings “what goes around comes around” or “there is nothing new under the sun”. I know for me, growing up I would see these really cool pictures of my mom and aunts wearing an afro with a two piece, crop top and bell bottom set and what I like to call “Jesus sandals.” You know the brown slides with the two straps and the bulky soles? Yep those lol. I mean just old school livin’ and I used to think those looks were so funny and something I’d never do... Well until I found myself in Charlotte Russe’s final closing sale purchasing the very same thing my 9yr old self laughed at and said I wouldn’t wear. Yep, crop tops, bell bottoms and “Jesus sandals” lol! Oh yeah, did I forget to mention that I’m also fully natural, wear my hair in Afro puffs, big curls and puffy ponytails all the time now? Yeah, I do! When I thought about the trends that are out now, the ones the vast majority’s following I didn’t even realize that it was the very same thing I laughed at just years ago. I mean just about everyone’s doing it. So I took another look at those pictures now as a 23 year old who wears the same thing and saw just how right my elders were when they said “ain’t nothin’ new under the sun, we’ve been doing this”. I laugh now because its true! There really isn’t anything new happening. It’s just new people doing the same old thing in a different era. I can only imagine when I have kids and they start dressing like how I dress now what my response will be. I’ll probably smile, shake my head and say “here we go again!”
